Cloud86 is an independent hosting provider founded only a few years ago, in 2019. Yet, they’ve quickly grown to be the most popular web hosting provider in a couple of European countries and one of the fastest hosting providers in Europe.
The key to their success? Their founders have over a decade of experience in the hosting sector, so they knew the pain points of many hosting customers.
They focused on solving some of the most common reasons people aren’t satisfied with their web hosts- slow website loading speeds and bad customer support, mostly seen after the web hosts are acquired by bigger players.
In this detailed Cloud86 review, you’ll learn everything you need to know about Cloud86, including the pros, cons, and pricing. You’ll also learn about the features of their web hosting, WordPress hosting, and managed VPS.
Cloud86 Hosting pros
Let’s start by looking at some of the best features of Cloud86 and what makes it an excellent option for your web hosting needs.
Super-fast web hosting
Cloud86’s web hosting is fast. Like really, really fast. They were rated the fastest Dutch hosting provider of 2022 and 2023 by independent studies from Start24. Their average website load time is only 533ms (about half of a second).
That’s because they use several technologies to maximize the speed of your website: LiteSpeed servers by default on all their web hosting plans and enterprise SSD storage. And with the included LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress, your website could even load in under 200ms! Many providers do not utilize LiteSpeed. They also utilize the QUIC.cloud CDN, which is especially useful if you expect a lot of international visitors.
Don’t believe it’s so fast? Just visit their website and see how fast it loads. They use the same enterprise technology for their customers as they use for themselves.
Fast web hosting is seriously important. If your website is even a few seconds slower, you’re very likely to miss out on a lot of conversions.
According to Semrush, a website that loads within 1 to 3 seconds only has a 32% bounce probability. With a website that takes 3 to 5 seconds, that increases to 90%! That’s seriously a lot of customers you can miss out on from such a small difference.
Customer support that actually cares
You’re not going to have to deal with bots with Cloud86. They really want to give you the best customer experience they can. They aim to respond to any questions within 1 minute by phone and 2 hours by email during their opening hours.
Unlike many other successful web hosting companies, their experts try to be as helpful as they can be. And you can see that in their Trustpilot reviews.
For example, someone mentioned they had a problem with their WordPress website, and transferred their WordPress website to Cloud86 in hopes that would fix it. While that didn’t fix the issue for them, Cloud86 looked into it and fixed the issue entirely for free.
Cloud86 also includes ‘premium support’ with all of their plans (except for the Web Hosting Start plan). This means you can also ask their support team more technical questions, such as help with configuring your email client or errors on your website. It is important to note however that their premium support is limited to 30 minutes per month, but their general support is not.
You don’t need to pay for extra services
There’s plenty of providers who try to exclude basic services from their hosting plans so that they can sell it to you at an extra cost. I’ve experienced this myself and I really don’t like it. Even when I’ve purchased domains, I’ve seen providers who wanted to charge me extra just for something as simple as WHOIS privacy.
With Cloud86, you thankfully don’t have to pay for any extra services, because everything is included with your hosting plans. This includes automatic backups, SSL, email spam protection, the QUIC.cloud CDN, WordPress staging, free migration, and more.
However, there’s one small exception to this: with the Web Hosting Start plan, the free migration and premium support services are not included. I don’t think most people need these anyway, but if you do, the next plan which includes those is only a bit more expensive.
Scale as your business grows
Their biggest Web Hosting plan gives you:
- Unlimited traffic
- Unlimited email addresses
- The ability to host up to 10 websites (without having to purchase another plan!)
- Up to 20 databases
- 100GB of SSD storage
Because of that, you’re very unlikely to have any issues with your website being slow, even when you have a successful website with millions of visitors per month.
Easily do whatever you need to do
Cloud86 offers a modern interface that allows you to easily do everything you need to. They even allow you to edit domains in bulk, which is a really nice feature if you have lots of domains.
Cloud86 also uses the Plesk control panel, which is one of the most popular web hosting control panels with pretty much every feature you need in a control panel. It also includes the WordPress Toolkit, which makes it super easy and quick to launch a website (more on that later on this review).
An uptime guarantee of 99.98%
When it comes to hosting a website, uptime is crucial. Every minute that your website is down could mean you miss out on a lot of visitors or customers. Cloud86 offers a 99.98% uptime guarantee, so you can be sure your website will be pretty much all the time.
While many hosting providers offer a similar uptime guarantee, it’s great that Cloud86 offers this as well.
It’s really affordable
To add the cherry to the cake: their hosting is also really affordable and costs less than what many other providers charge when you consider so much is included.
Their cheapest Web Hosting plan starts at €1.95 / month, and their most expensive one only costs €5.95 / month (with a 3-year plan). They also offer 1-year plans, but they’re a little bit more expensive. Also, while those prices are first-term discounts, it’ll only cost you between €3.25 to €13.15 / month respectively after that.
Cloud86 Hosting Cons
Now that you have seen all the good aspects, let’s look at some of the weak areas of Cloud86 hosting.
A couple of missing things in customer support
While Cloud86 aims to respond within 1 minute by phone and 2 hours by email during opening hours, that’s not 24/7. Their support is available on working days from 09:00 to 17:00 (CET). This means that if you have a question out of their office hours, you’ll have to wait a bit to hear back from them.
Cloud86 also currently doesn’t offer support by live chat, which is my preferred form of support. However, I heard from their team that they’re planning on adding this soon.
Once that’s done, I believe it’s going to be very hard for almost any other hosting company to compete with their support, because very few of them offer email, phone and live chat support.
A few minor things
Cloud86 doesn’t seem to have many cons, especially not major ones. However, there are a few minor cons:
- Lack of knowledge base articles in English
- Domains are a few euros more expensive compared to many other providers
- The “Web Hosting” plans can only be purchased with 1 or 3-year terms. However, the Managed WordPress and Managed VPS plans offer monthly plans. Also, they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can get a refund within that period if you’re not satisfied
- While their Web Hosting and Managed WordPress plans are competitively priced, their Managed VPS is costly compared to the pricing of other providers. However, if you need a high-quality and reliable VPS, it’s definitely worth the price. That’s because they include an amazing SLA (worth €69.95 / month) with a 24/7 emergency phone number as well as extensive maintenance and security. They also include the following software (worth €139 / month): CloudLinux, Immunify360, LiteSpeed Web Server, Plesk, and anti-spam.
Cloud86 Web Hosting Plans
Cloud86 offers 3 types of hosting: web hosting, managed WordPress & WooCommerce, and managed VPS. They also offer business email hosting, but you can also create business emails with all their other plans.
Below, you’ll find more info about which hosting plan would be best for you.
Cloud86 offers 3 “Web Hosting” plans. In the chart below, you can see a comparison of the plans:
|Price (1-year term)||€2.95 / month first term, then €3.25 / month||€3.95 / month first term, then €6.55 / month||€7.95 / month first term, then €13.15 / month|
|Storage (SSD)||5 GB||50 GB||100 GB|
|Suitable for WooCommerce||No||Yes||Yes|
|Free migration service||No||Yes||Yes|
For a full list of features, see Cloud86’s Web Hosting plans.
Whether you’re just starting out or you’re experienced in web hosting, the Medium plan is an excellent choice. It includes premium support, so if you’re ever stuck trying to do something, their experts will be happy to help you.
However, if you want to host a WordPress or WooCommerce website, I’d strongly suggest their Managed WordPress hosting, because it’ll make your life much easier.
Managed WordPress & WooCommerce Hosting
If you want a Managed WordPress or WooCommerce website, you also get 3 options:
|Price (1-year term)||€7.95 / month first term, then €17.55 / month||€15.95 / month first term, then €35.15 / month||€25.95 / month first term, then €57.15 / month|
|Storage (SSD)||10 GB||50 GB||100 GB|
|Suitable for WooCommerce||Yes||Yes||Yes|
|Free migration service||Yes||Yes||Yes|
I previously mentioned Managed WordPress or WooCommerce will make your life much easier if you want to run a WordPress or WooCommerce website, that’s because in addition to all the Web Hosting features, you also get:
- 1-click WordPress installation – so you can easily install WordPress
- LiteSpeed Cache – to make your website as fast as possible
- Staging – to preview your website before you publish it
- Automatic WordPress updates – to make your website as secure as possible
- And much more with the WordPress Toolkit
For a full list of features, go here.
The Managed WordPress or WooCommerce Start plan is usually a great choice, because it includes everything that most people need, including premium support.
If you’re not sure what a Managed VPS is, you probably don’t need one right now. But if you’re curious about Cloud86’s Managed VPS plans, here’s a comparison of them:
|Price (monthly plan)||€169.96||€239.95||€359.95|
|RAM||6 GB||12 GB||24 GB|
|Storage (SSD)||50 GB||100 GB||200 GB|
As you can see, you get unlimited websites, traffic, and email addresses with each plan. So, whatever plan would be best for you just depends on how much power you need.
Conclusion: So, is Cloud86 as good as people say?
Based on everything mentioned above, I believe Cloud86 is definitely as good as people say. I could genuinely name so many pros but I could only name a few cons in my Cloud86 review, most of which were really minor.
But don’t just take my word for it; if you look at their Trustpilot reviews, you can see that they’re rated an average of 4.8 stars based on 853 reviews. Almost every review is 5 stars.
Cloud86 uses enterprise servers, so when your website gets millions of viewers, you won’t have to worry about switching to another provider.
If you’re new to web hosting, Cloud86 is also a great choice. Their Managed WordPress plans include everything you need to make things as easy as possible for yourself, including 1-click WordPress installation, automatic updates, staging, premium support and more.
To conclude, if you want super-fast web hosting with a great user experience and great customer support, I definitely recommend Cloud86.
