AWS Activate Founders is Amazon’s official credit programme for self-funded startups, giving eligible bootstrapped builders up to $1,000 in AWS credits and $350 in Developer Support. Through this WPism partner offer, I will walk you through how to apply, what the credits cover, and when the deal genuinely makes sense for your project.
| Deal | Offer | How to Claim |
|---|---|---|
| AWS Activate Founders Credits | Up to $1,000 in AWS Activate Credits (2-year validity) | Apply via AWS Activate |
| Developer Support Add-On | $350 in AWS Developer Support credits (1-year access) | Included with Founders approval |
| AWS Activate Portfolio (alternative path) | Up to $100,000 for accelerator/VC-backed startups | Requires Org ID from partner |
Below, I cover the AWS Activate Founders pricing context, the features bundled into the package, how the deal compares against rival cloud credit programmes, and whether it suits your stage.
How to Redeem AWS Activate Founders Promo Code?
Applying for the Founders package is more straightforward than the AWS console makes it look. Once your business details are ready, the application itself takes around 15 minutes from start to submit.
Step 1: Open the AWS Activate Founders deal page – Review the offer terms and confirm Founders is the correct path for your stage before applying.
Although you can apply for this deal directly on Amazon’s AWS page, we recommend using our partner StartGround who will be able to guide you with the process and increase your chances of getting higher amount in credits.
Step 2: Click through to the AWS Activate Founders application – Use the deal page link to land on the official AWS Activate Founders application form.
Step 3: Sign in with your AWS Builder ID – Create or sign in to your Builder ID using a professional business email rather than a personal address.
Step 4: Fill in your company profile – Add your company name, website URL, product description, target market, and current funding stage.
Step 5: Link your AWS account – Connect the AWS account that will receive the credits, ensuring it sits on a paid tier and has admin access ready.
Step 6: Submit and check your status – Review every field before clicking submit, then track the application on the AWS Credit Application Status page over the next 7-10 business days.
By following these steps, you can activate the AWS Activate Founders promo and start running your infrastructure on Amazon’s cloud with promotional credits absorbing your first months of usage.
AWS Activate Founders Pricing and Plans
AWS itself does not charge to join Activate. The credits are promotional and require approval, not payment. Pricing here refers to what your AWS account looks like once the credits land and how the underlying services are billed when you start consuming them.
| Tier | Cost | Credits | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS Free Tier | Free | 12 months of free service quotas | Anyone testing AWS for the first time |
| AWS Activate Founders | Free (application-based) | Up to $1,000 in credits + $350 Developer Support | Self-funded, pre-seed startups |
| AWS Activate Portfolio | Free (application-based, requires Org ID) | Up to $100,000 in credits | Accelerator/VC-backed startups |
| AWS Pay-As-You-Go | Variable per service | None | Ineligible startups, post-credit accounts |
AWS Activate Founders
The Founders tier is what this deal centres on. I find it most useful for solo founders and two- or three-person teams in the validation phase. You get $1,000 in promotional credits valid for two years from approval, plus $350 in Developer Support credits valid for one year. The credits absorb your AWS bill across more than 200 eligible services, and the Developer Support add-on unlocks direct access to a Cloud Support Associate. I genuinely recommend using that support during your design phase rather than waiting until something breaks.
AWS Activate Portfolio
If you have already raised institutional capital, joined an accelerator, or partnered with one of AWS’s 1,000+ Activate provider organisations, Portfolio scales the credit allocation to $100,000. The catch is that you need a valid Org ID from your partner organisation, and you cannot have already received Activate credits of equal or greater value through Founders. Most bootstrapped readers will not qualify for Portfolio yet. The path remains open later if you raise.
AWS Free Tier (stackable)
The Free Tier is not part of Activate but stacks neatly on the same AWS account. You get 750 hours per month of t2.micro or t3.micro EC2 usage, 5GB of S3 standard storage, 1 million Lambda requests, and 25GB of DynamoDB storage for the first 12 months of your account. Combine the Free Tier with $1,000 in Founders credits and a frugal builder can keep an MVP running close to free for a year and a half.
AWS Activate Founders Features
The Founders package looks small at $1,000 on paper, but the value sits in what the credits unlock. Amazon Web Services runs the infrastructure behind roughly a third of the world’s web workloads, including companies like Stripe, Airbnb, Slack, and Lyft. Founders gives you the same service catalogue those companies use, just with promotional credits offsetting your first months of consumption.
I have seen plenty of bootstrapped builders dismiss the programme because the credit number is smaller than the headline-grabbing $100K Portfolio tier. That dismissal is usually a mistake. The features below explain why.
Promotional Credits Across 200+ Services
The $1,000 credit applies to over 200 eligible AWS services, covering compute (EC2, Lambda, Fargate), storage (S3, EBS, EFS), databases (RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift), networking (CloudFront, Route 53, VPC), and machine learning (SageMaker, Bedrock, Rekognition, Comprehend). Credits offset eligible usage automatically. They post against your invoice each month without manual redemption.
A few exclusions are worth flagging upfront. The credits do not cover Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, AWS Marketplace charges, AWS Managed Services, AWS Professional Services, or Training and Certification. If you were planning to lock in a one-year EC2 commitment immediately, do that with cash rather than burning credits on a non-eligible category.
Amazon Bedrock Access for AI Builders
Bedrock is the part of the Founders package that has changed the most since the programme launched in 2020. You can run inference against foundation models from Anthropic, Meta, Mistral, Cohere, AI21 Labs, and Amazon’s own Titan family, all through a single Bedrock API and all eligible for Founders credit usage.
For anyone prototyping an AI product, this is significant. Inference costs are usually the line item that breaks early-stage AI experiments. You can spend $1,000 on OpenAI calls in a couple of weeks of prompt iteration. With Founders credits applied to Bedrock usage, you get breathing room to test multiple models, iterate on retrieval-augmented generation patterns, and compare third-party LLMs without setting up separate billing accounts for each provider.
Cloud Support Associate Access
The $350 Developer Support credit is, in my view, the most underused piece of the package. Developer Support normally costs the greater of $29/month or 3% of your monthly AWS spend, and the credit covers roughly a year of the service at the floor rate.
What you actually get is direct access to a Cloud Support Associate during US business hours plus general architectural guidance. I recommend using this during your design phase, not after something breaks. A 30-minute conversation about whether to use Lambda or Fargate, or whether your DynamoDB key schema makes sense, often saves weeks of refactoring six months down the line.
AWS Well-Architected Framework
Activate Founders members get access to AWS’s Well-Architected Framework reviews, a structured self-assessment covering six pillars: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimisation, and sustainability. The tool is free, but combining it with the Developer Support tier means you can run a self-review and then validate your conclusions with an AWS engineer.
For a solo founder, this is the closest thing to having a senior cloud architect on call without paying for one.
Partner Marketplace Discounts
Activate members also get access to a separate marketplace of partner offers, including software discounts and credits for tools that integrate with AWS. Past offers have included credits with MongoDB Atlas, Datadog, HubSpot, Slack, Stripe, Twilio, and a long list of developer infrastructure providers. Offers rotate throughout the year, so I recommend checking the partner page in your Activate console quarterly. For startups with a heavy SaaS dependency, the stacked partner credits often exceed the value of the AWS credits themselves.
Two-Year Credit Validity
Founders credits remain valid for up to two years from your approval date. That validity window is more generous than most rival programmes. Google for Startups Start, for example, gives you 12 months. The longer window lets you spread credit consumption across the validation, build, and early-traction phases of your startup rather than burning everything in the first six months.
Global Region Coverage
The Founders programme runs across every AWS region globally with one exception. AWS regions in mainland China operate under separate terms and are not included. For builders in Europe, the UK, North America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, Founders credits work on the AWS infrastructure closest to your users.
All AWS Activate Founders Deals and Offers
WPism has partnered with AWS to surface the official Activate Founders application path for self-funded startups. The deals listed below are the currently active offers, and both run through the same AWS Activate landing page.
Current WPism Exclusive Offers
Up to $1,000 in AWS Activate Credits – Self-funded startups with a verifiable company website, a professional email, and an AWS account on a paid tier can apply for up to $1,000 in promotional credits valid for two years. Submit your application directly to AWS Activate and a response usually arrives within 7-10 business days. No Org ID, no investor backing, and no accelerator required.
$350 in AWS Developer Support credits – Approved Founders applicants automatically receive $350 in Developer Support credits valid for one year, unlocking direct access to a Cloud Support Associate and architectural guidance. The credit posts to your account at the same time as the Activate Credits and runs in parallel.
Eligibility
The Founders programme is open to startups that meet a clear set of criteria. Your company must be self-funded with no institutional backing (no VC, accelerator, or incubator affiliation), founded within the past 10 years, and operating below Series B stage. You need a verifiable company website or web profile, an AWS account on a paid tier plan, and a professional business email rather than a personal one. You also cannot have previously received AWS Activate Founders or Portfolio credits of equal or greater value. The programme runs in every AWS region except mainland China.
AWS Activate Founders Reviews
I have followed the Founders programme since it launched in February 2020, and the feedback patterns from bootstrapped founders on Indie Hackers, Hacker News, and r/startups have stayed consistent across the years. The picture is genuinely positive. The programme delivers what it promises, and the friction points are mostly application-related rather than product-related.
What Users Appreciate Most
The most consistent praise is the realistic approval bar. Founders routinely get accepted without an MVP, without traction, and without a polished pitch. A working landing page with a clear product description is often enough. One developer reported on Reddit being approved with nothing more than a project idea and a single-page site, and that pattern repeats across founder communities. The credit value also stretches further than people expect: a typical SaaS MVP running on a small EC2 instance, an RDS database, and an S3 bucket consumes around $50-80 per month, meaning $1,000 covers well over a year of basic infrastructure during the validation phase.
Where AWS Activate Founders Performs Well
The Bedrock eligibility is the standout feature for AI builders, and it is increasingly the reason people apply rather than going to Google or Microsoft. Founders who use Bedrock during prototyping report being able to test 5-10 different model configurations across Claude, Llama, Mistral, and Titan without worrying about inference billing. That kind of experimentation is hard to do on $1,000 with most other clouds. The Developer Support tier also gets quiet praise from the founders who actually open tickets, though most never do.
Common Points of Feedback
The biggest critique focuses on application clarity. AWS’s documentation has historically blurred the line between Founders and Portfolio, and founders sometimes submit the wrong form, miss the eligibility nuance about prior credits, or get tripped up by the requirement for a professional email domain. The application UX has improved meaningfully since 2024, but it is still not as smooth as Microsoft Founders Hub or Google for Startups. The other recurring complaint: the $350 Developer Support credit is poorly marketed, and most founders never realise they have access to it.
Overall Sentiment
In my experience, AWS Activate Founders is the most underrated startup credit programme in the cloud space. It does not have the headline-grabbing dollar figure of Microsoft’s $150K Founders Hub or the simplicity of DigitalOcean’s flat $25K offer. What it does have is the largest service catalogue in cloud computing, and for builders who plan to stay on AWS long-term, the credits ease your transition into a platform you would otherwise have to learn while paying full freight. The two-year validity window is also genuinely useful for bootstrapped projects with long timelines.

AWS Activate Founders Promo Code FAQs
AWS Activate Founders Alternatives
AWS Activate Founders is one of several startup credit programmes worth considering. The alternatives below are the strongest direct competitors, each with a distinct angle that suits different builders.
Google for Startups Cloud Program
Google offers up to $2,000 in Google Cloud credits for self-funded startups in its Start tier and up to $200,000 for funded startups in its Scale tier. The bootstrapped credit is double the AWS Founders amount, but Google’s validity window is shorter at 12 months versus AWS’s two years. Choose Google for Startups when you are building data-heavy products and want BigQuery and Vertex AI as your primary stack. (Also, check out Google Workspace promo codes here.)
Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub
Microsoft’s Founders Hub gives up to $150,000 in Azure credits along with free GitHub Enterprise access and $2,500 in OpenAI API credits, without requiring institutional backing. The credit ceiling is by far the highest of any bootstrapped-friendly programme. Choose Microsoft Founders Hub when you build on the Microsoft stack (.NET, Azure SQL, Power Platform) or want guaranteed OpenAI API access bundled in.
DigitalOcean Hatch
DigitalOcean Hatch gives qualifying startups $25,000 in credits over one year along with mentorship and technical advisory. The platform itself is much simpler than AWS. Droplet pricing is predictable, the dashboard has a fraction of the services, and the learning curve is significantly lower. Choose DigitalOcean Hatch when you want a smaller infrastructure footprint and predictable monthly billing without AWS’s service sprawl.
Cloudflare for Startups
Cloudflare partners with venture funds and accelerators to offer free Pro and Business plans plus Workers compute credits. The deal targets edge-first startups building on Cloudflare’s CDN, R2 object storage, and Workers AI platform. Cloudflare’s free tier alone handles most early-stage workloads, so the Startups programme adds incremental value rather than being the foundation. Choose Cloudflare for Startups when you are building edge-first applications or want to minimise origin compute costs.
Oracle for Startups
Oracle offers up to $500,000 in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure credits over two years for qualifying startups, with a focus on AI, GPU, and database workloads. Oracle’s GPU pricing often undercuts AWS, GCP, and Azure for sustained training runs, which makes it interesting for AI startups with heavy compute needs. Choose Oracle for Startups when you need GPU-heavy workloads or are specifically building on Oracle Database.
Get Started with AWS Activate Founders Deal
If you are bootstrapping a startup and have been putting off claiming cloud credits because every guide online mentions the $100K Portfolio tier you do not qualify for, AWS Activate Founders is the path actually built for your stage. The $1,000 in promotional credits absorbs roughly a year of basic MVP infrastructure, the $350 in Developer Support gives you on-demand architectural guidance, and the two-year validity window means you can spread the runway across multiple build phases.
Submit your application directly through the AWS Activate Founders form to lock in your credit allocation before your stage no longer fits the bootstrapped criteria. Founders who have raised institutional capital should look at the Portfolio path instead, and both routes are accessible from the same Activate landing page.
Submit your application today, monitor your status over the following 7-10 business days, and start building on the largest cloud platform in the world with promotional credits doing the work for you.
This offer is verified by WPism in partnership with AWS. T&Cs apply. Credit amounts, eligibility criteria, and programme terms are set by AWS and may change. Confirm current details on the AWS Activate page before submitting.
